Beautiful Cities Tour starts with days of delight in Berlin

The Beautiful Cities Tour got off to a great start this week with all of us arriving in Berlin for the start of a fabulous trip that will take us to Prague and Vienna and Bratislava.

In Berlin, we toured all the top sites from the Brandenburg Gate to the Reichstag and the Berlin Wall as well as key war memorial sites and the very busy and popular squares and shopping streets.

The weather has been very good but with a little wind in open places but we were still able to sit outside in cafes and restaurants and have a very comfortable and happy time next to the Spree River.

Today, we will be visiting Museum Island and the Tiergarten. Yesterday, we toured the city and then went down to Potsdam to visit Sanssouci Palace. All very lovely.

Berlin is a lively, fascinating city, a mind-blowing contrast of images from places of war-time horror to dazzlingly modern places of revival and innovation. Everywhere there is an indomitable spirit of optimism and creativity. It is easy to see beauty, especially when you look at how the Berlin Wall has been painted with such vibrant and evocative art and how much of the city has been lifted from ruin to a new and striking architecture.

We’re a very happy group, enjoying one another’s company as we travel together and find time for plenty of beer breaks and jolly party gatherings.
